When I read the articles about the SuperPAC “Make America Awesome” making nice meme-ish anti-Toupee ads on Instagram, it gave me an idea. Oppo should make a SuperPAC. Obviously it’s going to be nonpartisan. We will represent you with your automotive interests to advocate the political candidate that furthers our automotive interests.
Ok. OppoPAC is in its infancy and the author of this is very tired. So some things might not be correct. Politics has gone to the point that it’s become dirty with money. So why not we join the party to represent your interests? Whatever you may think about SuperPACS, this is for the greater good. The others ones...eh on both ends of the equation.
OppoPAC will support these things (and heavily lobby for these things to political candidates):
Universal Homologation Standards
Pushing for acceptance of Japanese, Australian, and European crash testing/homologation standards for a speedier NHTSA homologation process that will allow automakers to give us the more awesome cars that don’t reach our shores..
Track Cars Regulations (in favor of private citizens’ freedom to modify their cars into track vehicles)
Pushing for regulation that does not restrict our race cars.

Repealing of the Chicken Tax.
Repealing of the Chicken Tax. Goddamn it, I want my Ssangyong Korando in the US! It doesn’t help the big 3 and only stifles competition within the light trucks classes. Ford has a nice process to get the Transit to the states by mindlessly shredding up interior pieces to get it across the Atlantic. It’s absurd and makes things worst on both sides of the equation.
The 25 year rule. Kill it.
Patrick George also wrote a great rant about how petitions were not sufficient enough to change the ugly and wretched 25 year law. The only solution we have is the Show and Display law. Why can’t we own a Subaru Levorg that has equal levels of safety and protection as any new Subaru Impreza at the showrooms? This is absurd. And if you didn’t know, the Show and Display heavily favors in the rich, as I bet no one can afford any car on their list. Mercedes Benz lobbied the hell out of Congress to get that passed. Let us hire the lobbyists to get your cars back.

Automotive Consumer Protection.
For us consumers, we sometimes encounter untrustworthy car dealerships and car repair places that sell us lemons, stonewall us, washing bad titles, various “fabric/rust/seat/headliner/tire protections” people try to sell us, and many more. We need an encompassing legislature that protects consumers like us Opponauts because the current state of a lot of automotive consumer protection law varies from state to state. Oh hai Lehto.

OppoPAC, we can make that a solution. Let OppoPAC help you represent you with us lobbying on your behalf for your car related political needs (under certain ethical circumstances)! Patrick George never expected Oppositelock to help directly make America Jalop again. .
If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments. I can be filing paperwork during spring break.
For the Skeptics
If you are a skeptic of the possibility of Oppo making a SuperPAC, it’s really not hard at all. 3 seventeen year olds made a PAC. Because they can. It’s hilariously easy. Colbert made one. I’m 18. This is easier than any of my AP Lit HW. And if you think this is stupid, there is a PAC that is called Universe’s Greatest Billionaire Joshua Larose Lobb. Look it up.

How about we just write our senators instead of using the very means that are destroying democracy?
Write your senator/congressman in support of the RPM act first. https://www.sema.org/rpm-bill-summa…

That also could work, but that is only one issue.

Your senators and congressmen don't vote to your liking because they dont know your position. Write them, let them know your positions on all of these issues. Encourage others to do the same. or better yet take time out of your day to acctually meet with them.

“Your senators and congressmen don’t vote to your liking because”
Because more than likely, you (in general) didn’t vote in that election or didn’t vote for someone to actually represent your interests. /facts

Pushing for regulation that does not restrict our race cars.
SEMA’s doing that, the bill is called RPM something.
Repealing of the Chicken Tax. Goddamn it, I want my Ssangyong Korando in the US!
Yeah, that’s not going to get you any closer to a Ssangyong. There’s still a lot of other regulations that would keep it away.

This reminds me, like 80% of the senate is up for re-election in November.
Vote the assholes out.

We find out who is running unopposed and we just register Jalopnik writers as their opponent.
